What Does a Regenerative Ocean-based Economy Look Like; Local, Regional, and Global Strategies for Growing the Blue Economy

The marine biotechnologies market is worth €2.8 billion, with annual growth of 10 to 12%. Globally 3 billion people depend on marine and coastal areas for their livelihoods (e.g. fishing, tourism, commerce, transportation and energy). Regional economies and governments who successfully cultivate Innovation Ecosystems that foster the development of regenerative models for marine-based infrastructure, large-scale mariculture, and ocean tech, will not only empower their local industries and populations to navigate the eminent destructive impacts of climate change the near term, but they will also be in a position to foster resilient communities that become templates for long-term Disaster Risk Reduction. They will become global leaders and economic drivers in the deployment of solutions sets for other at-risk coastal communities around the world. Greg will give an overview of the state of Blue Technology and Blue Economy development globally, citing key examples and indicators of how communities can become leaders in these emerging trends.
